For the cheapest, most authentic meal in Kraków, eat at a **Bar Mleczny** (milk bar) — state-subsidised canteens from the communist era that charge 15–25 PLN for a full plate of pierogi or żurek. Pod Temidą (Grodzka 43) and Centralny (Nowa Huta) are the most historic. Restaurants lining Rynek Główny charge three times more for the same dish with an inferior kitchen; walk one block east or west and prices halve immediately.
